Jeffrey Matthews is an accomplished family law attorney with over forty years of experience helping individuals and families navigate life’s most difficult transitions. At the heart of Jeffrey’s work is a belief he has carried since childhood watching Perry Mason: that the law can be a force for justice, clarity, and human connection. His decision to pursue a legal career was shaped not only by early inspiration, but by a profound desire to honor his father, whose own dreams of becoming an attorney were cut short when he left law school during the Depression to support his family.

Throughout his career, Jeffrey has embraced his role as an empathetic, pragmatic, incisive, and frank advocate. His clients know him as someone who communicates with honesty and care, approaching each case with deep respect for the people and families at the center of the conflict. His decades of experience span high-conflict custody litigation, financially complex divorce, business and estate valuation, and sophisticated marital property matters.

Before joining View Ridge Law, Jeffrey spent four decades practicing in Oregon, serving as partner, managing partner, and family law advisor at several respected firms. He built a reputation as one of the region’s most trusted family law attorneys, earning honors such as Martindale Hubbell’s AV rating starting in 1996, recognition by Super Lawyers from 2007 to 2023, and Best Lawyers in America from 2016 to 2024. Jeffrey was also a Fellow and past President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, reflecting his long-standing commitment to excellence, mentorship, and professional leadership.

Jeffrey’s service extends far beyond the courtroom. He has spent his career advancing community causes focused on hunger relief, housing stability, early childhood support, and literacy. In 1997, he founded Oregon Lawyers Against Hunger, an organization that has since raised over $3.5 million for the Oregon Food Bank. He also co-founded Lawyers for Literacy, supporting SMART Reading, and has served on numerous nonprofit boards dedicated to strengthening families and improving access to essential resources.

Jeffrey grew up in Oregon and earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Oregon. His lifelong love for literature and storytelling has shaped the way he listens to clients and helps them rebuild their futures with dignity and understanding.

Outside of work, Jeffrey finds joy in the Pacific Northwest outdoors. He enjoys hiking with friends and his beloved Bernese Mountain dogs, fly fishing in the region’s rivers, and cheering for the Oregon Ducks with unwavering loyalty.
